Bible Study for Beginners — Chapter-by-Chapter Lessons

Begin with one chapter. My Study Room helps you read the Bible book by book, understand the main teaching, and choose one practical step to carry into your day.

A beginner lesson for every chapter

BiblaLive includes all 66 books of the Bible and a dedicated English beginner lesson for each of its 1,189 chapters. Select a book and chapter in My Study Room, then read the passage alongside the lesson. Sign in to use your personal study workspace and save your progress and notes.

Each lesson includes a simple explanation, key teachings, practical examples, review questions with suggested answers, and a takeaway. Read the chapter before opening the answers so you can think through the questions yourself.

Try this approach with John 15

In John 15, Jesus describes himself as the vine and his disciples as branches. Read the whole chapter first. Notice how remaining in Jesus, loving one another, and bearing fruit connect across the passage.

Ask: What does a branch depend on? What does Jesus command his disciples to do? How does the chapter prepare them for opposition? A practical takeaway could be setting aside time to pray and choosing one concrete act of love for someone this week.

Keep verse 5 in its wider setting. The image of the vine is part of Jesus’ teaching to his disciples; it is not a promise that every personal ambition will succeed. Reading the surrounding verses helps keep your interpretation grounded.

Understand words without losing your place

Select a linked word to open its dictionary entry beside the chapter. Entries include the original Greek or Hebrew word when available, transliteration, pronunciation guidance, a definition, and related Bible references. Some entries also explain Aramaic terms.

The wording of an English translation may not line up with a single original-language word. Use the chapter context and related passages alongside the dictionary. Pronunciation guidance is a reading aid, and individual entries can have different levels of detail.

Build a simple study habit

You can take private notes for an individual verse while studying a whole chapter. Record a question, a connection to another passage, or a practical application. Your notes belong to your account.

  • Choose one book and read a manageable chapter at a time.
  • Write the chapter’s main idea in your own words.
  • Look up a word only when it helps you understand the passage.
  • Answer the review questions and compare the suggested answers.
  • Save one takeaway and return to it before your next chapter.

Bible languages and study sources

The reader offers 20 installed Bible editions across English, French, Haitian Creole, and Spanish. The complete chapter-by-chapter beginner lesson collection is currently in English; selecting another Bible language does not mean every lesson has been translated.

Beginner lessons were prepared with automated assistance from the installed KJV text and Matthew Henry chapter outlines, followed by automated editorial review and selected manual corrections. Treat explanations as study aids, compare them with the chapter, and discuss difficult questions with a trusted teacher.

Common questions

Do I have to study verse by verse?

No. The study room is organized book by book and chapter by chapter. You can still save a note for any individual verse.

Where should a new reader start?

The Gospel of John is one practical starting point because it focuses on Jesus’ words, actions, and identity. Read at a pace that lets you reflect and ask questions.
